CanadianOnlineGamers and Trevor Houston you are to be henceforth considered a joke.

Hello everyone.  Have you ever heard of a writer by the name of Trevor Houston?  My assumption would be that you probably haven't and that is perfectly OK.  After reading through this post you will realize that this dude is not only a terrible write.  Not that I claim to be a great one.  But he is also just wildly uninformed and extremely bias despite saying he isn't.  I'm going to break this down the same way that I do all of the other ones I've done.  Enjoy!:

SOURCE
Let’s get this out of the way. I am not a Sony fanboy nor do I consider myself a big PlayStation fan either… and no, I’m not on the Sony payroll. In all honesty, nobody’s paying me to write this so you can trust that my opinions are my own. I’ve always considered myself an Xbox guy. As I reflect upon all of my years spent gaming I can truly say the Xbox 360 is probably my favorite console of all time. In the past few months my Xbox One still gets more of a workout than my PS4. This isn’t because the PS4 includes a crappy ass mic, and inferior online experience but rather I simply prefer playing games on the Xbox One. All my core gamer friends are ‘Xbots’ like myself. The loyal part of me has always remained faithful to the Xbox. Yet despite this I feel like I am aboard the Titanic and that big flippin’ iceberg is staring right us. It’s a feeling I have in the pit of my gut; this Xbox One ride is creeping to an end.

OK.  If you need to start off a post saying "I'm not a fanboy", then chances are that you are about to deliver some heavy fanboy bullshit.  Having read through the article already I can confirm you've absolutely delivered.

Not sure how, or why, you would feel that the Xbox One is the Titanic considering it is still selling extremely well.  You have the most horrible context and justification I have ever read for thinking that the Xbox One is coming to an end.

Here lies my concern. For the past 6-months Sony’s PlayStation 4 has outsold the Xbox One, this isn’t conjecture, it’s fact. Overall PS4 is leading the Xbox One in sales. Is this lead insurmountable? No, but it’s significant. Titanfall did little in terms of tipping the scales towards the Xbox One. Destiny is right around the corner and anyone who is anyone is going to play it on the PS4. Meanwhile, the Xbox One continues to flounder about reversing policies and now ditching the Kinect for a cheaper, more competitively priced console. Well kids, there is a saying in the stock market and in fantasy baseball and that is “sell high”. And folks the time is now to sell high!

You are a dumbass.  Ford is routinely outsold by GM and yet people aren't dumping their vehicles.  Being outsold does not equate to failing.  You have a very simplistic mind.  The fact that you equate console ownership to the stock market or fantasy baseball shows how truly ridiculous you are!

Destiny is coming out yet.  Anyone who is anyone is playing it on the PS4?  What the hell are you talking about?  People aren't going to go out and buy an Xbox One for Destiny.  They are going to buy it for console exclusives.  How ignorant do you have to be to think of Destiny that way?  Honestly?...

Here are five reasons why you need to strongly consider trading in or selling that Xbox One now because that iceberg ain’t getting any smaller:

1: Layoffs? Don’t talk about—layoffs?! You kidding me? Layoffs?!

Earlier this week it was reported Microsoft will close its direct-to-Xbox entertainment branch as part of its extensive layoffs of up to 18,000 people. There have also been reports where big chunks of its global marketing teams have been let go. I don’t know much about big business and massive companies but I am thinking when you lay off 18,000 jobs that cannot be a good thing. Okay, I get how stocks went up after the layoff announcement and I get how the layoffs have much to do with the acquisition of Nokia. Yet I don’t see many instances of thriving companies axing 14% of its workforce. Maybe Xbox is simply ditching the whole “all-in-one games and entertainment system” nonsense that has preoccupied Xbox executives since the botched Xbox One E3 2013 announcement. Maybe they just want to show a profit next quarter by slashing so many jobs. Whatever the case may be Microsoft is laying folks off and Sony isn’t.

Microsoft is cutting redundant jobs.  Thank you for flat out admitting you do not know what the hell you are talking about.  That makes it much easier to accept the level of stupidity I just read.  13,000 of the jobs were directly to be cut based on Nokia.  The other 5,000 jobs are probably standard belt tightening--which is something EVERY major company does.

Let's not forget that SONY just announced they were cutting 5,000 jobs back in February and they didn't aquire a major company.  So who is really struggling here?  You have really shown off your utter ignorance.  Whether it is accidental or willful I have no clue.

2: The Soon To Be Biggest New IP of All Time – “Destiny”

Destiny is pretty much the only game people are talking about right now. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is playing the Beta right now on the PS4. The only people who seem to be holding out for the Beta on the Xbox One are Microsoft employees and their families, those who only own Xbox One’s, and one certain Xbox MVP I know (sorry buddy, he knows who he is). Otherwise, every other gamer on the planet is playing the beta right now. Why is Destiny a big deal? Well how about you read this article (5 Reasons Destiny Will Be the Biggest New IP Launch of All Time) I prepared well over a year ago. According to the latest numbers more gamers are pre-ordering Destiny on the PS4 compared to the Xbox One. I expect the gap to widen in the weeks leading up to the games launch. If you want to play Destiny, the PS4 is where you want to play it – trust me.

As of the time I am writing this it is ONLY able to be played on PS4 you stupid son of a bitch.  The only ones who seem to be holding out for the Destiny Beta on Xbox One are--Xbox One owners?  Are you mentally retarded by chance?

Well when it comes to numbers there are more PS4's out there so that would make sense that more people are preordering on the PS4.  I will not trust you on the choice of which console to play.  You've just proved you are both ignorant and flat out dumb.

3: The Xbox One’s Trade-in Value Isn’t That Bad, Right Now

At the time I wrote this, my local EB Games was offering $215.00 dollar trade-in value for the Xbox One with the Kinect. On Craigslist I am seeing used consoles go for anywhere from $300-400 bucks. I know this is still a far cry from the $500 bucks plus tax or so you paid for it but you if you want to get the most for your Xbox One, the time to cash in your chips is NOW. Sell or trade your Xbox One, trade in a few games and you can have a new PS4 just like that. If you can live without Halo 5, Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive, then ditching your Xbox One makes plenty of sense, right?

Are you serious?  Gears, Quantum Break, Titanfall and many more.  Ignoring that there are people out there who just like the Xbox One more because they like Microsofts products.  I do not understand the level of idiocy it takes to contemplate trading in a game system 7 months after launch for the purpose of getting more money.  People who buy these things know it is a long lifecycle and you are telling them to jump ship with you less than a year after launch.  I don't even know what to say other than people should absolutely not listen to you.

4: That’s Right I said It, The Xbox One’s Graphics Will Never Look Better Than the PS4’s

The Xbox One hardware limitations continue to hurt the console, at least in the PR department. There isn’t a week that goes by where the resolution debate surfaces and PS4 comes out the winner every time. Just yesterday I read somewhere that the Destiny beta would not be in 1080p for the Xbox One. I know, shocking right? Microsoft made a decision to go with a cheaper, slower RAM. This decision alone was not only a crushing blow for Xbox fans but also devastating for developers. Development teams have done everything they can to optimize their games on the Xbox One and they have all seemingly fallen short thus far. The Xbox One just isn’t powerful enough and multiplatform games will always look better on the PS4. The leap from the Xbox to the Xbox 360 was significant. The leap from the 360 to the Xbox One is not. If you are happy with an inferior console when it comes to the hardware, by all means keep your Xbox One.

So you list that the Xbox One Destiny Beta will be less than 1080p, but you ignore the fact that Bunjie already said that the final game WILL be 1080p.  So at that point there is zero difference between the PS4 version and the Xbox one version.  WTF dude?  You don't get to ignore facts just to support your already weak argument to ditch the Xbox One in favor of the PS4.  You are completely shameless.

5: PS4’s Vision, Support and Longevity Take The Cake

Based on sales numbers alone and the PlayStation’s track record, the PS4 isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It is about as solid as an investment gamers can make. The sole focus of the console is games.  Sony’s swagger and arrogance doesn’t seem to hurt the PlayStation in any way and gamers eat it up. They have incredible exclusives on the way and more games are offering PS4 exclusive content.  The Xbox One just seems to struggle to keep up and their vision keeps getting murkier by the month. Do I think Microsoft’s new CEO will turn things around? Not at this rate. Sure the recent sales hike with the new cheaper Xbox One is encouraging but in the end this is only a short term band-aid to a problem that needs reconstructive surgery.

What part of the Xbox Ones sales record so far says it is going away?  Did you watch E3?  There are enough games to make any average joe go broke.

Your console is not an investment.  It is a purchase and little else.  It isn't like you are going to get a return on your investment.  It will never give you back what you put it.

I watched E3.  Between Microsoft and Sony there was only one company who ONLY spoke about games.  How can you say the focus isn't games for the Xbox One and give the PS4 a pass?  That makes no sense whatsoever and you've, yet again, ignored facts to support a weak ass arguement.

What in the hell are you talking about?  The Xbox One's increased sales from dropping Kinect is just a band-aid?  People started buying the console because of the removal of mandatory Kinect.  How is that a band-aid?  You seriously make no sense.  The Destiny final game is going to have identical resolutions on both consoles.  Both consoles can multitask and they both have identical trade in values at Gamestop right now.  This entire opinion piece you wrote was littered with nothing but fanboy stupidity.  You should be ashamed to have put out something like this with your name attached to it sir.  Shame on you.

  1. The lay offs statement is dumb. Seems like they are cutting their losses by closing xes and focusing on things that matter, games. If they are adamant about making original tv shows, they can always partner with amazon or netflix who already have that established.

I think he makes a valid point about destiny. Destiny has the potential of being this gens 'CoD' for the ps4 as cod was so huge for the 360. Last gen, when people thought cod, they though the 360. I can definitely see that potential in destiny in favor in ps4.

I also think he has a valid point about graphics. I mean last gen, the ps3 had the stigma of having worse multiplats in general, and the difference in flops between the gpus was something like 40-50 gflops in favor of the 360 plus the 360 had a superior memory architecture unlike the the ps3s. This gen, we have a 400+gfop difference, from the same family of gpu and generally, it seems devs prefer the ps4 memory architecture because it's easier work with. Further, i think people underestimate the fact that even though we are seeing a bit more parity in terms of res, as the gen progresses, devs will sacrifice res/fps for better graphics, and the ps4 does in fact have more head room. I expect sacrifices to come much sooner on the xb1 side than the ps4. But hey, even though I think the old MS guard had a terrible vision of what 'next-gen' means and totally ignored the previous xboxs being the lead in tech, i still bought one for the games, like im sure many of you did.

His number 5 is dumb though. Both of these consoles are really outdated, the xb1 just is more outdated than the ps4. I mean these would have been top of the line 4-5 years ago on the pc side. When the 360 launched, it's gpu architecture wasn't matched on the pc side for 6-12 months after it released. While i'm certain the xb1 and ps4 will see support for a year or two after their successors release, their successors are coming in 2018 imo. People forget this past gen was super long compared to previous gens. Plus, compared to previous gens, the xb1/ps4 have seen a far bigger jump on the memory side than the cpu/gpu side compared to where technology is.

Imo, both sides were waiting for the manufacturing process to shrink, to 22nm(or is it 20nm?) so they could get more horsepower per watt and less heat, but obviously, that didn't come to fruition.

Personally, I am more excited for the next xbox than i ever was for the xbox one. With Nadella as the boss and Spencer at the helm of the xbox, it's exciting times for the future. They actually get it. They understand what makes the xbox the xbox, and it's not damn TV TV TV TV and a damn camera. Ballmer and matrick were poison to the xbox brand.

True enough - but MS owns a part of Bungie and will see profits from Destiny on every PS4 unit sold as well as more profit on every 360 unit sold.

I definitely think the PS4 currently has the edge in hardware, but I do believe the XB1 will over take it. However, until the tools are released to implement DX12 and take advantage of the ESRAM properly, the XB1 will continue to be more difficult to program for. I honestly think that the HUGE heatsink and fan were put in because they were anticipating having much more heat being generated. There are just too many components that have not been addressed - hell, there is an internal speaker in there that hadsn't even been talked about! The 50 other processors/mcus haven' been defined either...so I'm not ready to concede that the PS4 is more powerful. However, MS has failed to come out and say it is more powerful...except for the stupid Twitter innuendo from Albert Penello.
I do think that the next Xbox will be a beast. I agree that Phil Spencer 'gets' the gamer mentality. But THIS Xbox needs to do a better job of retaining it's clients and showing its viabilitiy going forward. If it continues to be smashed by the PS4, it better still be a cash cow for MS. As someone stated previously, it is a great way to build brand loyalty for MS as a whole. I use Bing and will be getting a Surface tablet this Xmas because of Xbox. My next phone will be a Windows phone. They need to recognize the fact that satisfaction for the Xbox can/will translate into additional purchases from other MS divisions.

    2. Actually, bungie is 100% independent.

The whole point of the large neatsink + fan was for an absolute quiet experience and avoid rrod 2.0. remember the whole xbox one is meant to be on for 10 years statements i think from panello?

The speaker is for stuff like when you press the power button on the console it makes a sound.

An mcu is just a microcontroller. They are in everything. My car has 50+ mcus. my microwave has mcus. My power drill has a mcu haha. They are for the most basic functions. I really doubt they are used for anything significant, if at all, in terms of game processing power. I though they did discuss the special processors like the dsp and the move engines?

The people that designed the xb1 since the day it was announced stated they purposely did not target high end graphics and focused more on the entertainment aspects. That's why misterxmedia/cteam and all the other fake insiders are full of it. In order for any of their lies to be true, would have to mean microsoft is lying.

Personally, i'll take the word of the people that designed the xb1 over online idiots that fling as much s**" on a wall hoping something might stick.

The xbox one was gimped because of poor management and disconnect with the consumer. It's the simplest answer and for that reason, most likely the right answer. Luckily that poison is no longer there.

I mean let's say it's all true. There is hidden power and the xbox one is in fact more poweful than the ps4. You honest to goodness think Microsoft would NDA themselves about the true power of the xbox one? You really think months of getting shredded by pretty much all gaming 'journalists' they would follow there own nda instead screaming from the roof tops they have a more powerful console? You really think Mattrick would have ditched and ran before the console even launched if it was truly more powerful than the ps4? His multimillion dollar contract with zynga would have taken months of negotiating...sounds about right when the s*** storm was brewing on the interwebz with all the leaks. The dude had foresight to get out of dodge.

Any who, windows phone is awesome. Been a user since it launched. Only real issue is that it's alway either getting the popular apps after they aren't popular anymore or just not getting them. Bummed because they cancelled their supposed 'hero' phone for the holidays codename mclaren. I am up for an upgrade from my 920. Really hope they have another hero phone lined up.

Surface is fantastic, though I am ready for an upgrade. Still rolling with the first gen rt. Debating whether to go surface rt 3 or surface pro 3. Surface suffers from same issues as the phone app support as lacking.

  2. You seem to be disproportionately upset to what equates to a readership grab. Nobody had heard of this writer or site before this article. You probably heard about this from N4G, Eurogamer, Dualshockers, IGN or some other over the top pro Sony site. I bet you didn't hear much about Sony forgetting to pay bills causing sites go offline http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2014/07/sony-forgets-to-pay-internet-bills-loses-power-to-various-websites.
Look, the problem is that MS fails miserably at the PR game. I honestly think the Xbox 1 will be the more graphically capable system in the long run, but for now it is struggling to reach parity. It launched early, the software to take care of the XB1's customized hardware isn't ready and MS won't discuss when gamers will see everything come together. The demo of the Azure Cloud computing was shown at the GDC - not a place where gamers flock to. MS didn't discuss how the Cloud was what made the Crackdown destruction scene look so amazing to the mainstream media - you had to dig for that info.. Albert Penello's defense of an underpowered XB1 was a cryptic statement about 'can you imagine the console that seems weaker actually being more powerful?"...and then you hear nothing more. In the meantime, Sony hammers home that 1080p/60fps is the definition of a next gen console and yet has only one exclusive, MLB the Show, running at 1080p/60fps (not Killzone, Knack or Infamous). MS has failed to point out that most of the games they advertised at 1080p/60fps has dipped below the 60fps level... (I can't say that I have seen MLB dip, but I haven't seen a framerate test). Pro Sony sites broadcast that the Destiny beta for the XB1 will be 900p, but MS fails to point out that the Battlefield Hardline beta for PS4 was 900p - even after Sony lied about it.
I don't understand your outrage when articles like this have been the norm. Until MS fixes the XB1 (if it is capable of pushing better graphics than the PS4), fixes its media strategy and gets aggressive about winning this console race, then they will continue to see the sales divide grow. Sunset Overdrive will not make a dent - the Halo MC collection will move a few units, but not enough to close the gap or make Sony very worried.

I am a XB fan but I can see the problem with the console and its image. It needs KILLER exclusives in the worse way right now. If the price is right, buy Crytek (or the IPs) and make Homefront, Hunt and Ryse 2 exclusive. If they could launch those games (and if they look gorgeous) in Q1 of next year (but announce and advertise them as exclusives around Xmas time) they would have a shot. They also need to buy the IPs or controlling interest of Capcom and change Mighty #9 (from the guy who made Mega Man, into a new Mega Man exclusive to the Xbox - then launch an exclusive (but allow it to go on the DS too) Monster Hunter for Japan and an exclusive Street Fighter with Killer Instinct fighers, Marcus Fenix and the new Spartan as guests. MS needs blockbuster moves and momentum to show that they are going for console domination.
MS could start at home by making backwards compatabilty before xmas because the XB1 is powerful enough to do it. That would appeal to gamers and help push 360 owners to the XB1. Hell, that would have helped gamers who suffered through the game drought to have more choices - and would KILL the indie advantage of Sony (for people who like those crap games). Would you rather have BC and all of the Live indies or pay to RENT games you already own?

There are a ton of things that MS could do, but instead they fail to make aggressive moves to dominate the market or even show gamers that the XB1 is the right destination to game.

  3. I guess I disagree with you guys entirely when it comes to Destiny. He is hinging the entire notion of owning an Xbox One or PS4 on Destiny which is absolutely insane. I may have used strong language in the Destiny section so if I have offended anyone I apologize for that, but this guy is an absolute fool.

"Everyone, and I mean everyone, is playing the Beta right now on the PS4. The only people who seem to be holding out for the Beta on the Xbox One are Microsoft employees and their families, those who only own Xbox One’s, and one certain Xbox MVP I know (sorry buddy, he knows who he is)."

The Beta is not available on any other console than the PS4 right now and that is only due to a silly marketing scheme. He then says the only people who seem to be waiting are people associated with Microsoft. How ridiculous is that? That would be like me saying at the time that you should ditch your PS3 because the only people playing COD DLC are playing it on Xbox 360 at the time. Completely ignoring the fact that, at the time, it was only available on the Xbox 360. It is absurd.

  4. "On October 1, 2007, Microsoft and Bungie announced that Bungie was splitting off from its parent and becoming a privately held Limited Liability Company named Bungie LLC. As outlined in a deal between the two, Microsoft would retain a minority stake and continue to partner with Bungie on publishing and marketing both Halo and future projects, with the Halo intellectual property belonging to Microsoft."
MS still owns a piece of Bungie.

I stopped getting my XB1 tech info from X a long time ago. When I read through http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/164934-xbox-one-bus-bandwidths-graphics-capabilities-and-odd-soc-architecture-confirmed-by-microsoft it made me wonder what really was the goalpoint for MS. You don't need an oversized cooling system to guarantee the system lasts 10 years unless you plan on generating a ton of heat. There are a number of whisper quiet, smaller fans on the market for a lower price. The RROD was caused by a combo of heat and REALLY poor soldering which overheated and separated. I look at posts by some devs http://xboxonedaily.com/2014/06/xbox-ones-esram-results-in-speed-ups/ and look at what has been done (Forza and Ryse) and realize that those games were rushed due to the accelerated release date. These games were made before further system optimization. In addition, I do think the system was designed to take full advantage of the DX12 api and should come onto its own when they make the tools for developers to more easily access the tech. We have witnessed cloud enhanced graphics, saw how the ESRAM held 6gb of textures and saw the difference between Tiled Resources and Megatextures.
Mattrick was horrible with PR, but he made Live much more profitable through ad revenues. He was right to stick by his paid access policies and people forget it was under him that the indie movement on consoles was implemented.
If the deal w/Capcom nets them enough control, they should do it. They can leverage Capcom's catalogue to make content for mobile platforms, Nintendo, Apple, obviously Xbox and Surface...everything not Sony PS4.
You made great points that I will need to go back and research. Your info on the 50 processors has made me rethink a few things. I just trust MS when they yalk about cloud enhanced gaming and DX12.
